Google Ungoogled

According to Wikipedia - "Google Inc. is an American multinational public corporation invested in Internet searchcloud computing, and advertising technologies. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products, and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program  Google has been estimated to run over one million servers in data centers around the world, and process over one billion search requests and about twenty-four petabytes of user-generated data every day." ( For those wondering what a Petabyte is its 10 raised to the power of 15    bytes , or one million Gigabytes or a 1000 Terabytes! Tremendous. To get a sense of scale - The 4 experiments in the Large Hadron Collider produce about 15 petabytes of data PER YEAR. )

Google also offers a host of online services like Gmail , Google + , Google Docs and Youtube. Apart from this there is the very handy Google Chrome Web Browser which has revolutionized the Browser industry. Blogspot without which this article would cease to exist. They have helped amateurs like me to edit my photos and apply effects with the help of the Picasa photo organizing and editing platform. There is the Android OS for Mobile phones and Tablets  and also not to forget the very recent Google Chromebooks. This is just a brief , if we want the whole list of Google Products , the list is literally endless .

For the complete list of Google Product , there is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Google_products  and for whoever who checks it . It is just mind boggling  for a company less than 20 years old to host such a product line up. In fact any regular user knows this and is needless to be said that without Google we are all paralyzed. Of course, it can be argued that there alternatives in all the spheres but are they as effective ? However are the alternatives as user friendly ?
Google Search has alternatives like Bing , Yahoo Search etc., but a conscious question is how many of us have used Bing or Yahoo Search in the last month or so ? Alternative to Gmail is Hotmail or Yahoo or AOL , again but which is easier to handle?

Thus if we assume a hypothetical situation where tomorrow Sergey Brin , Larry Page and Eric Schmidt decide that its enough . They no longer want Google to run any longer and they fold up Google and all of the services it offers , all the support it gives to different programs. With the reserve cash they have they buy all the public stocks of Google and shut down Google . Or just under some out of the world circumstances which are unimaginable Google stops making profits and overnight the very existence of Google is terminated. Lets just think for 10 seconds a world without Google, here is a brief overview.

1) No Youtube: Yup, with Google down , no more Youtube . The hundreds of millions of videos are wiped out . The music industry suffers a huge blow , with all the artists having these Vevo accounts . No more Music Videos!! I can no longer learn something in a minute or enjoy for hours at a stretch at other's expense.

2) No Google Map - Everyone with a smart phone today is aware of the advantages of Google Maps. It is really useful when you are in an unknown location, trying to go to a wayward place and there is no one around to guide you .  Or knowing the optimum way to reach a place, saving time and money.

3) Google Docs - For all those who store a huge quantity of their documents , ppts and Spreadsheets on Google Doc not only as a back up , but so as to access it from somewhere else other than your personal computer ( Cloud ). Though there are plenty of alternatives in this area , no one has the integration offered by Google with a plethora of other services.

4) Picasa - I personally have all my pictures uploaded on Picasa, to access them from anywhere I want and in case my computer crashes, and all my data vanishes. All our images will be no more.  No more easy fixing of photos.

5) Google Chrome - Today close to 21% of Internet Users use Google Chrome , its one of the fastest browsers, offering a wide variety of extensions , applications and support . Not to forget integration with your Google account.

6)Blogspot- It has bought a revolution in the literary world . You longer needed to be a known figure to get yourself heard.  You need not be a writer to publish your views. Part timers like me can just start a blog and express our views. The best part is,  it is allowing intellectuals and people with good writing skills to earn money sitting at home.

7) Google Adwords- Allows everyone to make money from their websites, and blogs . The source of Google's rise and showing everyone that money can be actually be made from the World Wide Web.

And the most important offerings of Google-

8) Gmail - The live's approximately 200 million users of Gmail will grind to a halt, with all their emails gone. With emails and all the correspondences gone , it will be a big blow until one switches over.

9) Android - Android OS has an estimated user base of about 33% to 50% of the smartphone user base OS. There are about 200 million Android users with about 4 million of them being Android Tablets. No Google means , no Android. The software will not vanish from our phones , but no more Troubleshooting , no more Updates. That will be a Big Big problem.

10) GOOGLE SEARCH- The Big Daddy , the biggest bread earner for Google Inc. Imagine , no more googling . Gone are the days , when; I don't know something, I Google it in an instant, and I have all the answers. Using Google for projects, knowledge ( just everything in fact ) has made us so handicapped , we no more remember referring to books , libraries or encyclopedias for data, even Images!!

This is just a brief overview , of world without Google, and their major products.  Not to forget -Google Voice , Google Earth , Google Wallet , and the most recent - Google Plus. Let us just hope that we do not see such a world any time soon, because without Google our overall Internet experience just will not remain the same.....

A new Google enterprise ?? ;)
Gola is an Indian version of a Snow Cone!!
