The Pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity and the Optimist finds opportunity in every difficulty. The whole difference between the Optimist and the Pessimist is the attitude.
After the World War II, Japan was totally vanquished and destroyed. However its citizens did not lose heart , on the contrary in the destruction they saw an opportunity to make their country an economic superpower. Due to their continued efforts today Japan is a leader in many industries like Automobiles , Semiconductor Chips, Electronics , Robotics ( it possesses more than half the world's Robots ) , Ship Building and even Earthquake Engineering . The Japanese are famous for their intellect and Japan is a world leader in fundamental scientific research . The country has produced 15 Nobel Laureates, 3 Field's Medalists.
The Japanese rebuilt their nation from the rubble to towering heights, never did they lose heart. Even after the very recent January earthquake and Tsunami , which threatened to wipe out the very existence of Japan from the face of the earth due to a possibility of a Nuclear Meltdown, the Japanese have salvaged whatever they can and revived whatever they could. Despite of the shortage of safe drinking water and food , there had been no instances of rioting or law breaking, people shared water and shelter.
Dr. Kurien of Amul did not get disheartened from the adverse situation in the 60's in Gujarat and the shortage of dairy products in India, due to to the opposition from vested interests to thwart his attempt to promote a Cooperative Milk Society. He therefore then gathered the farmers of Gujarat and bought a revolution in Gujarat by forming the Amul Co operative Society. Today its the leading supplier of milk and other dairy products in India and is a well known brand in other countries too. At present it has an annual turnover exceeding 2 Billion USD.
The Pessimist always instead blames the circumstances , rather than taking charge of the situation and reviving himself. Due to this attitude the pessimist does not have any energy or the will to do anything constructive.
On the contrary the Optimist will accept the difficulties and then think how to make to the best out of the situation , he is positive in his approach. This positive attitude , faith , willingness to move forward and his inherent attitude to utilize any situation to the fullest is his strength. This attitude ultimately helps him to see an opportunity in any situation.
