Google Ungoogled

According to Wikipedia - "Google Inc. is an American multinational public corporation invested in Internet searchcloud computing, and advertising technologies. Google hosts and develops a number of Internet-based services and products, and generates profit primarily from advertising through its AdWords program  Google has been estimated to run over one million servers in data centers around the world, and process over one billion search requests and about twenty-four petabytes of user-generated data every day." ( For those wondering what a Petabyte is its 10 raised to the power of 15    bytes , or one million Gigabytes or a 1000 Terabytes! Tremendous. To get a sense of scale - The 4 experiments in the Large Hadron Collider produce about 15 petabytes of data PER YEAR. )

Aplomb

Aplomb according to Merriam-Webster dictionary  is defined as "complete and confident composure or self-assurance".  In other words that means being assured of one self and in his/her ability. Even according to Marie Curie , the great physicist and chemist who had won two Nobel Prizes and just had her 144th Birth Anniversary on 7th Nov 2011 - "Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained."

The Optimist

The Pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity and the Optimist finds opportunity in every difficulty. The whole difference between the Optimist and the Pessimist is the attitude.

After the World War II, Japan was totally vanquished and destroyed. However its citizens did not lose heart , on the contrary in the destruction they saw an opportunity to make their country an economic superpower. Due to their continued efforts today Japan is a leader in many industries like Automobiles , Semiconductor Chips, Electronics , Robotics ( it possesses more than half the world's Robots ) , Ship Building and even Earthquake Engineering . The Japanese are famous for their intellect and Japan is a world leader in fundamental scientific research . The country has produced 15 Nobel Laureates, 3 Field's Medalists.

Change, we need.

Change is the way of Life. Life changes constantly. In every sphere of life we must change , adapt and evolve according to the needs of the time, the one's who don't, fail. Every major event is marked by change. Its the difference between success and failure.
Major catastrophes and disasters are marked by change in attitude. Be it the first World War or the rise of Christ . Even in religions , on the advent of Buddhism , people deflected from Hinduism, causing reforms. Protestants led to large changes in Christianity.

An horrifying accident, the bane of humanity - insensitivity...........

Written on - May 29, 2009

Today, while I was coming home , while crossing a traffic junction a speeding Honda CRV ,

rammed into a into guy on a motorcycle. The guy fell head on the road, luckily as they say, he was wearing a helmet. The car which must have been going at 100 km/h, continued and raced ahead after the crash to avoid being caught, and due to the great momentum of the car, the bike rider fell forward, he was safe though and escaped with a few minor injuries. It was truly a miracle he escaped safely.

Firecrackers - A Bane for the Sane

Come Diwali  , and India lights up.

People rush to shop, to dress up . To meet their loved ones,  worship the holy and seek blessings from elders.. Does that cover it all, No.

The  thing that all  youngsters and children associate with the festival of Light - Firecrackers .
Lo and behold, the wonder. The sudden explosion of sound ( rather noise ) . The onslaught of colors and sadly - injuries. Year after year we see that everywhere kids and some adults too enjoy bursting crackers . However have we become so inhumane , so immune to human suffering that we fail to see that the very hands that burst these so called "instruments of enjoyment" are akin to the hands who are forced to leave school , forced to forego their childhood , forego the games , forego the joy and laughter to make such objects.

The arrival of Diwali brings with it the usual reports of raids on Cracker Factories in our dailies . Yet how is it that we can totally forget the pain , the suffering of the innocent minors and make our happiness depend on the very thing which is a bane for the tots. How is that we can display this alacrity ? How can we spend thousands of rupees on such fatuous things , when in our own country more than 40% of its citizens earn less than 60 rupees a day and  are unable to afford a basic meal , a rudimentary two time square meal for their kin.
